ABOUT ME

I have always been physically active, from my early participation in school sports (field hockey, netball, and gymnastics), to teaching group fitness in the 80's and 90's (yes, old-style aerobics complete with leg warmers, headbands, and ponytails!). To teaching fitness classes and organizing and leading the Special Olympics Oceanside fitness program for the past seven years.

Eight years ago, I was hit with some significant health setbacks. Every surgery presented a new hurdle, yet I continued to move—however slowly. “Motion is lotion” became my anchor, a gentle reminder that each small effort was a step toward healing. It was a long road, but I found my way back to a version of myself that feels strong, joyful, and full of life again.

THE CREATION OF ENCORE

Creating ENCORE resulted from wondering: What if I could inspire others to embrace the joys and benefits of movement for life? What would that look like?

NI love a good challenge, so in fall 2022, I jumped into a new journey—starting with recertifying as a fitness professional. I went on to earn BCRPA certifications in Older Adult Movement, Balance and Chair Fitness, and Functional Movement. I also completed my Mat and STOTT Reformer Pilates certifications, and in April 2025, finished the STOTT Injury and Special Populations course.

A PLACE TO CALL HOME

Initially, the challenge was to find a permanent home for ENCORE. For the first few months, I rented space at various locations in Qualicum Beach. However, in December 2023, an opportunity arose that became a turning point for ENCORE. I had the chance to purchase the You+Me Studio. Therefore, in March 2024, I took over the studio. ENCORE finally has a place to call home.

While Encore is still in its early days, our community is ready to embrace what it offers. Whether you're looking to start your own personal "encore" or enjoy the benefits of movement, I invite you to join one of the classes and be part of this exciting journey.

I look forward to meeting you soon.
